Along with the Halloween craft book I was sent to review (see post here), I was also sent a darling book on how to sew super-fun fleece hats for kids and adults...awesome!
Fleece Hat Friends, by Mary Rasch, is a darling collection of projects (mostly hats) that you can make with fleece...(other projects include a scarf, bag & animal tails...which are, by the way, absolutely fantastic).
One of the best things about sewing with fleece is that it won't ravel while you are working with it, eliminating the need for hems, and thus making it the ideal fabric for beginners. Fleece also really washes well, so it's perfect for kids' projects.
Ms. Rasch includes a basic hat pattern in the book, which she uses as the bases for all of her animal hats (ummmm...great idea). She also includes templates for all of the variations on the basic hat. And there is a sizing guide in there, too, which allows you to adapt your hat to fit a child or adult. She also explains the different kids of fleece available, so you know what you're buying when you make your choices.
Here are a few of the projects I'll be trying my hand at this fall/winter...
Isn't this little beaver hat adorable? And it even has a tail!
This dinosaur hat comes with a pattern for a matching fleece bag! How fun! I'm thinking Halloween costume???
And the hanging "arms" and "hands" on this little monster hat make it absolutely perfect! I think my niece, Tori, would look adorable in a little pink monster hat...
Ever made a fleece hat? Or a fleece anything? Dying to give it a try? Wanna win a copy of this book? Well, good! Because I'm giving one away! Woo hoo!!!
